FAQ

  • What do I do if I am not completely satisfied with the quality of my produce?

Handling and storing produce grown to organic standards by small producers is challenging to say the least. Missing from the conventional food supply chain are the biocide chemicals, sophisticated application equipment, GMO seeds, as well as the economies of scale that justify millions of dollars of storage and processing infrastructure. Limitations of human, financial and physical capital epitomize local and regional foodsheds like ours.

That being said, we try very hard to procure and maintain the best quality produce supply for our customers. Sometimes we fall short. If you feel that the produce that you have received from us is not up to your standards, please contact us via email: hello@yellowbirdfs.com. To qualify for a refund, please include in that email images of the questionable produce and describe any circumstance that you consider to be pertinent. Producers, pick dates, and lot numbers, if available, are greatly appreciated.

We value your support, appreciate your forbearance, and regret any inconvenience we may have caused you.

    Team Yellowbird

  • How do Home Deliveries work?

Home Delivery is a great hassle-free way to get your veggies and pantry items each week in a contactless way! $10.00 per home delivery.

We suggest using a cooler that is 32 quarts or larger to keep your produce fresh, especially in the summer months, if you are not able to promptly retrieve your order from your doorstep. If you have a large order you may need more than one cooler.

Make sure to set the cooler out each subsequent week you are getting your order and we will place your items right inside!

Please note: we cannot take any cooler or packaging items back at this time.

    Current delivery area schedule:

    • Columbus area: deliveries are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
    • Mount Vernon: home deliveries are Thursday.
    • Marion, Delphos and Findlay area: home deliveries are always Friday.

  • Can I ever skip/donate my box?

Yes! You can place holds on any week for any reason, as long as you get them in by Sunday at 11:59pm for the following week.

To donate your share to a family in need: Email hello@yellowbirdfs.com the date(s) you would like to donate your box, and instead of placing the hold we will charge your card and donate your box to a family in need.

Every Tuesday, we have a gal come by our warehouse and pick up all the donated food and take it out to our local food drives, pantries, and hot meal programs for use by those that need it most.

  • I can’t make my usual pick-up day/time but still want my box, what are my options?

If you know in advance you cannot make your pick-up, please email hello@yellowbirdfs.com with the location you want to change to. You can view all of our pickup locations here.

If you are picking up at one of our truck pick-ups, you will have 4 opportunities to get your items, either Thursday or Friday (depending on your assigned route), and then again on Saturday if you miss your original pick-up day.

Email hello@yellowbirdfs.com with any questions about your options, or check out your account for further details.

If you are not picking up at one of our truck pick-ups, please email hello@yellowbirdfs.com or check out your account for missed pick-up procedures with your specific location, as most of our partners will donate after the pickup deadline.

Lastly, you can always explain pick-up procedures to a friend and have them pick up in your place!

  • Help! I can’t find my box/add-ons/store order!

If emails are sent or calls are made about missing items after your location’s allotted pick-up time, you may not be reimbursed for missing items, as we can only guarantee items during each location’s scheduled pick-up time.

AFTER YOU LEAVE WITH YOUR FOOD ORDER, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ISSUE REFUNDS OR ADD CREDITS FOR DISCREPANCIES.

  • What do you mean by sustainable?

When we say sustainable we mean 100% of our veggies, meat, and dairy are non-GMO, grass fed, and free pastured. All of the small family farms we work with follow these practices. It is important to us that every single step of our food system – from the soil, to the animals, to our farmers, and to you – is treated with great value and care.

We only work with Ohio farmers who raise their animals on open pasture and grass. Check out our producers page for more information on the farms we work with, how they got started, and the delicious goodies they provide!

  • Why does my product date appear short-dated or expired?

While we always strive to get you the safest and freshest products, our products do not have additives so they may have a shorter shelf life date.

In line with the USDA Product Dating guidance document:

    • A “Best if Used By/Before” date indicates when a product will be of best flavor or quality. It is not a purchase or safety date.
    • A “Sell-By” date tells the store how long to display the product for sale for inventory management. It is not a safety date.
    • A “Use-By” date is the last date recommended for the use of the product while at peak quality. It is not a safety date, except for when used on infant formula.

Are foods safe to eat after the date passes? With the exception of infant formula, if the date passes during home storage, a product should still be safe and wholesome if handled properly until the time spoilage is evident. Refrigerated foods will develop an off odor, flavor or texture due to naturally occurring spoilage bacteria. If a food has developed such spoilage characteristics, it should not be eaten.

  • How do truck pickup notifications work?

On the morning of your scheduled pickup you will receive a text message from us stating that your Yellowbird Foodshed order is now ready for collection. Tap the link in that message and it will open WooDelivery, our delivery software, in your phone’s browser.

    From that page you can:

    • Tap View Larger Map in the upper left to open the truck pickup location in your default maps application.
    • Scroll down to see the full details of the pickup location.

You may also open your link when the truck location is not active. This happens when there isn’t a pickup location that currently has the truck in position and ready for our staff to hand out orders.

Once you arrive at the truck pickup location, tap Collect Now to notify the attendant that you have arrived. The next page will show a QR code that you can present to the attendant.
